Gigs, festivals and haircuts…

One of my best friends Kirsten is off to university in a couple of weeks time, so two days ago as a farewell (for now…she’s not getting rid of me that easily!) we both went to see The Twang at what is now the O2 academy Birmingham. We didn’t realise that as well as changing the name, the venue had been changed too…luckily we got to the gig early so we found our destination in the end. We went to see The Twang last year too, and for anyone who doesn’t know them, they’re a indie/rock band from Birmingham, this was their home coming gig and the opening of the new academy venue, this year and last year the atmosphere was fantastic! Afterwards we then met up with the bassist, Jon’s wife who is a good friend of Kirsten’s family. She invited us to a get together with the band at a pub, and as I’m not quite 18 she gave me her backstage pass and said if they wouldn’t let me in I should show it and say I’m a girlfriend of one of the band and I’m 28. Luckily no one questioned me being there.
A few weeks ago I also went to Shambala festival with Jake, our friend Ethan, Jake’s parents and some of their friends. I went last year with my friend Roisin and LOVED it. This year it was in the same place, but the experience was still very different, and still awesome! It’s definitely a festival for chilling out at, yet there’s always something going on, and the partying starts in the afternoon and goes on all through the night to the early hours, so you still manage to fit in a surprising amount and really feel like you’ve made the most of it at the end. There is never boredom at Shambala, only making the most of not having to do anything…
In other news, a couple of days ago I had a hair cut. It’s shorter and more ’square’ as my hair dresser described it. I like it but despite dramatic changes in the colour of my hair over the last year, I haven’t had a new style for a while so I’m still getting used to it. It’s going to take a bit of styling in the mornings which I’m in no way used to either, so I’m going to get a new hat for early college mornings when I put my alarm on snooze a few too many times.
